Split trip costs with friends

Warikan is a free bill splitter for group trips. Everyone adds their own expenses from their own phone — in any currency — and it works out who owes whom in the fewest possible payments. No app to install. No sign-up. Nothing to pay.

How it works

  1. Add everyone. Names only — nobody needs an account.
  2. Create a shared trip and send the link to the group chat.
  3. Everyone logs what they paid as the trip happens. Dinner, taxis, the hotel deposit someone fronted.
  4. Settle up at the end. Warikan nets everyone off and tells you the smallest set of payments that clears the books.

Why people use it

  • Everyone can add expenses. Not just the one person keeping the spreadsheet. That's the whole point — the person who paid is rarely the person holding the phone.
  • Multi-currency. Log a hotel in USD on a trip that settles in yen. The rate is yours to set.
  • Uneven splits. Split evenly, by shares (two drinks vs one), or by exact amounts.
  • Fewest payments. Four people, eleven expenses, and it still comes down to two or three transfers — not everyone paying everyone.
  • Free and private. No account, no email, no ads. Your trip lives behind an unguessable link.

Common questions

How do you split a bill between friends on a trip?

Don't settle each bill at the table — it's slow and it's where the arguments start. Track who paid for what as you go, then net everyone off at the end. Total what each person paid, subtract what they actually owed, and the difference is their balance. Warikan does that arithmetic and reduces it to the fewest possible transfers.

What does "warikan" mean?

Warikan (割り勘) is the Japanese term for splitting a bill evenly across a group — going Dutch.

Do my friends need to install anything?

No. They open the link and they're in. It works in any phone browser. If they want, they can add it to their home screen and it behaves like a native app.

What if someone leaves the trip, or we add a person halfway through?

Add or remove people any time in Settings. Existing expenses are recalculated without them.

Is my data private?

Your trip is stored behind a random, unguessable link. There's no account and no email. Anyone with the link can view and edit the trip, so keep it to the group chat.
